Who is Eddie Irvine?
Eddie Irvine is a former professional racing driver from Northern Ireland. He raced in Formula One for 12 years, winning four races and finishing the season in the top 3 on three occasions. After retiring from F1, he competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Daytona 24 Hours.
Born in Newtownards, County Down, Eddie Irvine began his career in karting before moving to Formula Ford 1600 in 1988. He progressed through the junior ranks until he reached Formula 3000 in 1993. His break into Formula One came with the Jordan team as a replacement for the injured Andrea de Cesaris at the Belgian Grand Prix. He scored his first championship points with a 6th-place finish at Suzuka and ended his maiden season with 10 points.
In 1995, Eddie Irvine moved to Ferrari and became Michael Schumacher’s teammate. The following year, he finished 3rd in the World Championship standings behind Schumacher and Damon Hill after scoring five wins. In 1997, he took second place behind Schumacher again but was beaten to the title by Jacques Villeneuve.
After leaving Ferrari at the end of 1999, Eddie Irvine spent two years with Jaguar Racing, scoring one victory at Silverstone. He retired from Formula One at the end of 2001 for his career but made a brief return with Renault as a replacement for Jarno Trulli at the 2004 British Grand Prix.

That all changed when he was given the opportunity to drive for the Jordan Grand Prix team in Formula One.
Irvine immediately made an impact, scoring points in his very first race. He would go on to score points in eight of the next nine races, including a stunning second-place finish at the British Grand Prix. Sadly, Irvine’s time with Ferrari came to an end after just three years. He raced for Jaguar for one season before retiring from F1 at the end of 2002. Even though he didn’t achieve his ultimate goal of becoming World Champion, Irvine can look back on his career with pride knowing that he was one of the quickest and most talented drivers of his generation.
Eddie Irvine’s Career in Formula 1
Eddie Irvine started his career in Formula 1 with the Jordan team in 1993. He scored his first podium finish at the 1994 British Grand Prix, and went on to take two more podiums that season. In 1995, he moved to Ferrari and became a regular points-scorer, finishing sixth in the standings.
Irvine had his most successful season in 1999, when he finished third in the standings behind race winner Mika Hakkinen and world champion driver Michael Schumacher. He took victories at the Malaysian and Italian Grands Prix, and also finished second at Silverstone.

His Famous Rivalry with Michael Schumacher

The two drivers were engaged in a fierce competition throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, with each driver scoring multiple world championships.
